Rowan's Law is a concussion safety legislation designed to protect amateur athletes and educate coaches about the dangers of head injuries. It was passed in 2018 and now requires all sports organizations within Ontario to:

  • Ensure that athletes under 26 years of age, parents of athletes under 18, coaches, team trainers and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario's Concussions Awareness Resources
  • Establish a Concussion Code of Conduct that sets out rules of behaviour to support concussion prevention; and
  • Establish a Removal-from-Sport and Return-to-Sport protocol.

To help the Hamilton Victoria Curling Club ensure compliance and reduce any safety risk to our Members and Guests, we ask that all participants, or guardians of participants, review the relevant materials below, and provide the club with a signed Concussion Awareness Receipt Form

to indicate that the materials were fully reviewed, related to their age as well as the Concussion Code of Conduct (at the bottom of this page) prior to their participation. Please continue reading for more information regarding the HVCC's concussion protocols.

1. Ontario's Concussion Awareness Resources

The below e-booklets, which can be downloaded from the Government of Ontario's website using the below links, will help you learn more about concussions so you can keep yourself and others active and safe - whether you're an athlete, student, parent, coach, official, or educator. We, as the HVCC, cannot allow coaches, teach trainers, and officials to serve as a coach, team trainer or official for in respect of the sport organization unless they provide confirmation that they have reviewed one of the Concussion Awareness Resources, every year. We suggest that all coaches, team trainers, or officials plan to review all three resources each year to ensure full knowledge of protocols.
